The Grand York recognised as Best Hotel of The Year

The five-star Grand York Hotel won The Cateys Award for Hotel of The Year Group last night.

The Cateys returned to JW Marriott Grosvenor House London on Tuesday 5 July to celebrate the best and brightest businesses and individuals in hospitality.

The Splendid Hospitality hotel beat four other finalists in the category – designed to honour any group hotel that has demonstrated excellence in its chosen market. The award recognises consistency of its product and service, and its success as a business while also presenting a healthy balance sheet and particular achievements in the past year.

The Grand York prides itself as being a true ambassador for York as well as focussing on impeccable service and an unforgettable Yorkshire welcome. From memorable packages such as ‘Dark Skies’ with The North York Moors, which includes a night stay, dinner, transport and an evening with an astronomer, to the care that is given to each guest, The Grand portrays all that is best in a five-star experience.

The Grand has been acknowledged with multiple awards including Hotel of The Year from the Visit York Tourism Awards 2021 and 2022 along with Visit York’s Business Events Venue of The Year and International Tourism Award. The hotel was also crowned Splendid Hotel of the Year in 2019 following a £15M refurbishment.

The Catey award recognised that as a business, The Grand York strives to support other local businesses and charities where possible, having fundraised over £8,000 for St Leonard’s Hospice from 2021/2022. Despite the turbulence in the hospitality industry, contribution and giving back to the local community remains key to The Grand York.

The Grand York adapted during national lockdowns in 2021 by introducing Virtual Cookery Classes, led by Chef Tutor Andrew Dixon. The virtual classes utilised a professional film crew to provide a brilliant experience to both individuals and corporate groups, helping to bring joy to hundreds of kitchens across the UK.

Chief Executive, Stuart Bailey commented on behalf of The Grand York:

“The Grand York has accomplished many achievements in the past year including the introduction of a brand-new industry-leading student placement programme, offering six individuals the opportunity to be guided through all departments within the hotel. This includes the provision of expert support from departmental managers, ongoing mentoring sessions with the leadership team and meetings with the General Manager for overarching business knowledge and mentorship.”

“The team has continued to evolve and involve the community as well as innovate through the toughest of times. I’m delighted that the team has been recognised for their contribution to York as well as Splendid Group. We’re thrilled to now have two Catey Award winning hotels following Hilton London Bankside’s win for the same category in 2020.”
