Chef of the Year

Within the Splendid Hospitality group we’re committed to supplying a top-quality service for our guests, and we’re delighted that we’ve been recognised once again for outstanding hospitality.

Ahmed Abdalla, the Head Chef at York’s only five-star hotel, Grand York has been awarded Chef of the Year at the 2023 Be Inclusive Hospitality Spotlight Awards. This award recognises outstanding achievements from Black, Asian, and ethnic minorities working within hospitality, food, and drink.

Judged by industry leaders like restaurateur Shelina Permalloo, and cofounder of Tayer + Elementary, Monica Berg, the award is a testament to the incredible work and innovation the team at The Grand shows consistently.

After two and a half years at the Grand York, Ahmed Abdalla has been able to create a menu for the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, Legacy, that highlights local produce with a modern twist. His innovative approach to the menu has earned him the Chef of the Year award that highlights those who make waves within the industry, push boundaries, and create dishes that captivate the imagination of customers and professionals alike.

This award follows an extremely successful year for Chef Abdalla and his team at Legacy after receiving Michelin Guide mentions and being awarded three AA rosettes. Legacy is cementing its reputation as an establishment to be watched within the British culinary scene and we’re excited to see what follows.

Congratulations to everyone at Grand York and to Ahmed Abdalla for this incredible achievement.
